| · "LP" is the followup to last years cleverly titled "EP"
Following in the wake of the wild early-90s rock scene, a never-ending stream of bands have attempted to emulate the unique sounds of grunge pioneers like Pearl Jam, never quite measuring up to the original. The U.K. equivalent, Brit-pop, rode its own wave on the backs of bands such as Oasis and Radiohead. This has created a huge mass of Brit-pop wannabes with similar sounds that dont quite differentiate themselves from the legions of others doing the exact same thing.
The full-length debut by Brooklyn-based quintet Ambulance Ltd. finds itself firmly planted on Brit-pops well-worn course. Although littered with a few unpolished pop gems like the bass-driven "Sugar Pill," the Pixies-ish "Ophelia" and the melodic nod to the 60s British Invasion, "Anecdote", the rest of the album falls victim to a haze of formula. A promising first album, if slightly uneven.
