Remember when rap was about which MC had the wickedest lyrical skills and who knew how to rock a mic the hardest? Well dont expect that from Ghostfaces latest endeavour, The Pretty Toney Album.
Once known as Ghostface Killah, a moniker that could be construed as racist, a member of the once-fresh Wu Tang Clan, Ghostface has fallen as a leader within hip-hop and has forced fans of the genre to swallow yet another boring thug album.
Horrible "skits" between each track plague the album, leaving one to wonder if Ghostface has what it takes to conjure up a decent rap album anymore.
Is there a saving grace on Pretty Toney? Yes. The selection of obscure old school R and B numbers Ghostface samples on virtually every track is impressive to say the least. Unfortunately, it didnt make listening to Pretty Toney any less painful. What it did do was make this reviewer long for the days when hip-hop was cutting edge, pure and with purpose.
Wholl like this? Suburban wannabe gangstas in souped-up cars bought by mom and dad. Word.
