AU NATUREL
Boompa records is probably best known as being the label home to the sugar-sweet pop of Canada’s the Salteens, however as the label spreads its wings they are also crossing international boundaries. Responsible for the Canadian release of the latest from Brisbane, Australia’s Sekiden, Boompa offers more music from down under in the form of Natualiste by Mebourne’s The Lucksmiths. Following in the jangly-pop tradition of the Finn Brothers (Split Endz, Crowded House) The Lucksmiths show you what The Smiths would have been like if Morrissey wasn’t such a sourpuss.

While not a brilliant album, Gutter Pastoral (Bongo Beat) by Kevin House is an interesting melancholy effort. His debut features help from members of the Be Good Tanyas and Vancouver’s alt-country all-stars Radiogram and makes a musical journey calling to mind the songs of Sparklehorse and Leonard Cohen with sparse arrangements, an acoustic guitar and a bit of drum machine.

By the way, in case you missed Sarah Harmer’s latest All Of Our Names (Cold Snap/Universal) don’t worry – it’s boring.
