OK, this will probably get me killed, but who decided it was a good idea to match hardcore vocals and metal music? Sure, its fun to have a cement truck drive over your head, but after it dumps the third or fourth load onto you, it gets to be a bit much.
Martyr AD play amazingly tight metal, and the closing track "The Dead Reprise" is a strong example of how to play sludgy without getting boring. "American Hollow" features great double kick drum work, and the extremely heavy groove (see Slayer, "The Crooked Cross") of "Misery Dance" made me think I might actually love this record. But the vocals keep turning me off. Its shouty hardcore-style vocals and insanely overused thrash-metal-hardcore snare drum attack drove me up the wall. Its sort of like listening to the dog up the street that keeps barkingbarkingbarking the same stupid bark. Yeah, I get it already, dog.
