THE VEILS
The Runaway Found
Rough Trade
· I’d like to introduce you to my new favourite band – The Veils.

Last year The Music released a great, understated rock album that made them one of my new favourite bands (yes, they come and go!). Like some sort of twisted dream fantasy, it was Robert Plant performing Echo and the Bunnymen songs – subtle, unusual and beautiful. It was the kind of music you remember long after your CD player has shut off. The Veils have taken over court in my CD player and been crowned my new favourite band of the moment. Deeply hypnotic and full of edges, frontman Finn Andrews sings with the anguish of a tortured man.

As stark and brooding as a C.S. Lewis novel (referenced in the track "The Nowhere Man"), The Veils’ debut subtly layers Andrews’s unique sound over beautiful string arrangements and melodic piano accompaniment. Their sound is understated – there are no gimmicky glam rock outfits or overproduced sounds. This probably means they will be overlooked by most, so take a chance if you can.
