| · Laid-back western swing perfect for summer nights on the verandah.
The Susie Arioli Band may lack the filthy, frenzied mania of the late Ray Condo (R.I.P.) and his Ricochets, but Ms. Ariolis relaxed delivery of jazz and country standards in a western swing style nevertheless places her as a worthy heir to Condos now-vacated throne.
Supported by the Django Reinhardt-inspired fretwork of lead guitarist Jordan Officer (who also arranges the songs) and a group of equally cracker jack players on guitar, sax and contrabass, Arioli lends her apparently effortless delivery to such classics as Memphis Slims "Mother Earth," Peggy Lees "Its a Good Day," and the title track, Rodgers and Hammersteins "Thats For Me." Hidden amongst the varied repertoire are a couple of Officers originals, scorching instrumentals that showcase the bands tasteful but accomplished musicianship. Its not necessarily a swingin party album, but Thats For Me will certainly provide adequate accompaniment to a languorous afternoon sipping mint juleps in the summer sun.
