SUSIE ARIOLI BAND
That’s For Me
Justin Time/Fusion III
· Laid-back western swing perfect for summer nights on the verandah.

The Susie Arioli Band may lack the filthy, frenzied mania of the late Ray Condo (R.I.P.) and his Ricochets, but Ms. Arioli’s relaxed delivery of jazz and country standards in a western swing style nevertheless places her as a worthy heir to Condo’s now-vacated throne.

Supported by the Django Reinhardt-inspired fretwork of lead guitarist Jordan Officer (who also arranges the songs) and a group of equally cracker jack players on guitar, sax and contrabass, Arioli lends her apparently effortless delivery to such classics as Memphis Slim’s "Mother Earth," Peggy Lee’s "It’s a Good Day," and the title track, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "That’s For Me." Hidden amongst the varied repertoire are a couple of Officer’s originals, scorching instrumentals that showcase the band’s tasteful but accomplished musicianship. It’s not necessarily a swingin’ party album, but That’s For Me will certainly provide adequate accompaniment to a languorous afternoon sipping mint juleps in the summer sun.
