| · A fresh overview, hand picked by the Man in Black himself
There's a dilemma faced by anyone looking to collect Johnny Cash's best tunes (its more than one disc can contain) without buying most of his discography (and more than one can usually afford). If you decided to buy two greatest hits records, the second usually has half the material found on the other. Not so with Life. Meant as a sequel to his celebrated Love, God, Murder trilogy, the final track listing was e-mailed by Cash four days before his death and "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk the Line" are nowhere to be seen. Mixing familiar, although less popular, tunes such as "Ballad of Ira Hayes" with obscure but solid songs including 1977's previously unreleased "I Can't Go that Way," Cash had a determined purpose leaving us with a parting overview of the memories, philosophy and experience he acquired during his life. Mission accomplished and then some.
