CALEXICO
Convict Pool
Quarterstick
· Six solid songs and a cartoon too.

Joey Burns and John Convertino, also known for backing Howe Gelb in Giant Sand, started Calexico delivering a unique musical blend of cowboy mariachi. Now they have evolved into a full-fledged phenomenon with a stunning horn section and considerably more confident vocals. Burns's soft-edged vocal emotion suits the slower moody numbers and easily transports you to the desert plains of their Arizona home, while the pitch-perfect brass accompaniment kicks it up when needed. With love-lorn ballads and big top instrumentals, Convict Pool is an even split of covers and originals that continues in much the same diverse vein as their 2003 release Feast of Wire. While the EP will leave fans longing for more, it is a perfect care package to tide one over till the next full length.
