AZITA
Life on the Fly
Drag City
· An about-face transformation so deep, she’s practically someone else.

Suddenly resembling Polly Jean Harvey (and a bit like that weird little pervert from Placebo), Azita Youssefi sheds her prior avant-garde, enfant terrible persona (as in: terrible singer, no actual songs to speak of, funny name) for a ’70s-style California jazz-rock sound.

Granted, I may not ever feel prompted to listen to it ever again, but at least Life on the Fly finally shows just what it is those who appear on her records (Tortoise’s John McEntire and Jeff Parker in particular) see in Azita’s music. As she puts it herself, "You’ve gotta break some eggs to make an omelette," and at least this time around it actually tastes like egg.
