QUINIMINE
Like Pistons for Engines
Grey Flat
· Seven songs in 50 minutes – there's nothing like taking your time.

Despite their brilliance, Quinimine have managed to get lost in the slow-core shuffle. While bands such as Ida (and Idaho for that matter) have managed to steal a bit of the spotlight away from the minimalist freight-train of Low, Quinamine has had no such luck. Their debut EP Filament was a low-key charmer to be sure, but Like Pistons For Engines really sees the band come into their own. With male and female vocals the band has a tendency to sound like a more refined version of the Velvet Underground, but while Lou Reed and Nico pushed the envelope of raw, Quinimine opts for a smooth and steady approach. With merciless patience, the band builds subtle epics with cello, violin and xylophone on top of the framework of a standard four-piece. The result is a near-perfect album that evokes relaxed elation and begs to be explored over and over again.
