Yes, its wrong to assume, but when I see there are five tracks on an album totalling 45 minutes in length, I figure Im not gonna hear punk rock. Score one for me.
Now, I have nothing against soundscapes, but I think they should be evocative of something, but Arm Of The Starfish doesnt evoke much for me not even the seaside atmosphere which its intended to capture. Maybe its the lack of energy. Ive always found large bodies of water to be pretty dynamic, but the Blithe Sons are definitely going for a calm blue ocean here. There are some interesting Sigur Ros-type moments, featuring wordless or unintelligible (at least to me) vocalizations, but they arent used with any consistency. Its not bad to relax to, but I wouldnt recommend it if youre doing anything requiring wakefulness.
