DESCENDENTS
Cool to be You
Fat Wreck Chords
· Milo is gonna kick your ass.

After a seven-year hiatus, surf-punk originators Descendents are back with the 14-track Cool To Be You. Descendents are my fountain of youth and guiltily bring out the 16-year-old boy in me (I’m double that). Still singing about girls, coffee, underdogs, TV and flatulence, Cool To Be You transcends age and facial hair. As a frontman, Milo Aukerman brings a unique nerdcore attitude not found in his parallel-sequel band ALL. On Cool to be You Aukerman sings "I got these glasses/ So I can’t wear shades/ But I’ll kick their asses/ I’ll get good grades." It’s classic stuff that you’ll be singing along to until your wife tells you to take it to the garage. Wicked! In addition, Egerton’s metal-tight riffs are a perfect match for drum-ogre Stevenson filling the space, pounding beats like he has four arms. There isn’t anything groundbreaking about this album – they broke that ground over 20 years ago and now are just riding the crest of the wave they created. But if you want summer fun songs to punk out to with your teenage (minded) friends, then this will make for caffeinated good times. Two or three songs too long, Cool To Be You is still a tasty bonus cup to dip into the I-don’t-want-to-grow-up-fountain. Enjoy!
