· Radiohead have been around long enough to have grandkids.

Remember when every long-haired flannel-wearing guitar hack wanted to be Pearl Jam? The result was bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Seven Mary Three. By the time Nickelback rolled around it was two generations removed and nobody even cared about Eddie Vedder and the boys anymore.

This is the same story, only with slightly better bands. On Pablo Honey, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke sang "Everyone Can Play Guitar," and as if to prove the point Palo Alto did just that. Although the band claims that they’re named for the lead singer’s playschool, his voice bends in just the right way to suggest that the fact that Radiohead has a B-side called "Palo Alto" is not just a coincidence. So if they are the bastard son of Radiohead, then Muse is the lost orphan of Palo Alto. They rock out a lot more than Radiohead, they write shameless choruses like Palo Alto, yet sadly they’re not nearly as good as either.
