| · No matter who they try to be, they pull it off
First time through Lay of the Land I didnt know what to think. Most of the time these moody Brits sound like the stripped-down pop of Teen Beat Recordss Versus. When they add cello they start to resemble Bostons defunct indie-rock underdogs The Dambuilders. Then almost out of nowhere they offer a guitar-driven rave-up worthy of later Primal Scream. Going in so many directions, the album may lack cohesion, but there is enough hook in their anger and enough beauty in their melancholy to have Seachange grow on you
