1. Shakespeare: The Prince & Me is not an adaptation of Hamlet, however the references to the famous tragedy in the film left me feeling quite cold towards the Bard especially for writing so many roles age specific to Julia Stiles.
2. Julia Stiles: As this wooden performer moves through every possible Hollywood-Shakespeare union, I dislike her more and more. She may be pretty, but she performs love as though her heart were a spatula.
3. Accents: Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the entire Danish population speaks English with a British accent! Maybe its because they, too, have a monarchy.
4. Edvard "Eddy" Valdemar Dangaard: O! That this melancholy Dane would melt somebodys heart. Alas, this Prince is no charmer.
5. Music: The main theme is a really bad cover of a Tom Waits song.
6. Chemistry: See Numbers 2 and 4. It is difficult to respond to this combo of Ms. Headstrong and Mr. Immature as they fumble through their dull romance. How ironic that they are forced to be lab partners in chem class.
7. Running time: Its 111 minutes and it felt like three hours! There is no reason for any romantic comedy to last longer than 90 minutes especially this one.
8. Juxtaposition: The Prince & Me is like two films under one title, and neither one of them is very good. The first one focuses on the hate-love relationship, while the second is a sea of fancy clothes and expensive jewelry. I prefer the latter.
9. Gender offender: The notion that women arent convinced that they can have romance and a career is tired even Shakespeare thought so. Lets move on.
10. Lars Ulrich: There is an extremely funny scene where the merits of famous Danish people are discussed, including Metallicas drummer it made me wish that the entire movie was that good. |
