30 seconds diversified
My homepage is filled with little nuggets of news from all over the globe. I usually warm up my brain by following these links, cross referencing them with links from other sites which inevitably leads me to porn or the online J. Crew catalog. I tried recently looking for some pro-George W. Bush sites (plenty of pro-American, yet not so many pro-Bush sites), thinking it might be interesting to see what they had to say. However, the odds are stacked against it.

A recent search on Google yielded 3,490,000 sites listed with the subject "Pro Bush" and 4,276,000 under "Anti Bush." A primitive generalization, perhaps, but still interesting.

On that note, one of the more entertaining anti-Bush sites can be found at bushin30seconds.com. The premise – "...an ad contest that’s intended to bring new talent and new messages into the world of mainstream political advertising. We're looking for the ad that best explains what this President and his policies are really about – in only 30 seconds." Judges include Jack Black, Donna Brazile, Al Franken, Moby, Michael Moore, Gus Van Sant and Eddie Vedder.

The contest has already come and gone, but you can still watch the winners in addition to the 26 finalists, by streaming video or by purchasing the DVD for a $30 donation to the Move On Voter Fund. The ads range from humorous to thought-provoking with diverse criticisms of the Bush administration including education, military spending and billionaire ties. "If the Bush Administration was Your Roommate" is one of my personal favourites.
