| · The 2004 edition of Rock Against Racism kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at the Mac Hall Ballroom (U of C). This all-ages gig is five bucks (Megatunes, Campus Ticket Centre, or the door), and features Falconhawk, Vailhalen, The Dudes and Chad Van Gaalen, as well as several community groups.
· The last ever show at the Cochrane Community Hall will start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 2. For eight bucks ($ 10 at the door), you can see Midpoint, Drive By Punch, Racing Home and Life At Last, and bid farewell to the hall at the same time its slated for demolition later this year. Tix are available at Megatunes and West 49 in Calgary, and at Pix and Stix in Cochrane. Therell also be contests and draws for band merch, with all proceeds going to the Cochrane Humane Society.
·If youd rather go north than west on April 2, you can head up to Airdrie to see six bands for seven bucks. Crammed into the Airdrie Legion will be FPZ, The Cranston Foundation, Hogpuncher, Incoherent, Two Dollar Ties and Imminent Return. Some people have complained that people never go to all-ages shows in Airdrie wanna prove them wrong?
· On Saturday, April 3, you can head up to Mac Hall Ballroom to catch Moneen, Park and The Fullblast. Tickets are $13.50 and are available at the usual suspects (TM, MG, Sloth) and the Liberty Lounge at Mount Royal College. Why would Mac Hall tickets be available at Mount Royal, you ask? Well, the two venues have a standing agreement once a band gets just a little too big for the Liberty, they move up to Mac Hall with the Libertys full blessing. · Looks like the folk festival will be continuing its appreciation of urban music this year. After the success of Michael Franti and Spearhead in 2002 and Buck 65 last year, word has it that Hamilton, Ontario-based left-of-centre hip-hop outfit Warsawpack will be gracing the stage at Princes Island this July. More folk fest details will be relayed as they emerge
· Local jazz vocalist and instructor Viviane Cardinal will be starting her 10th annual Spring Into Vocal Jazz Workshop in just a few weeks time. These performance-oriented workshops focus on helping vocalists find honesty in their performances. The program begins April 21 and runs until May 26, with student showcases May 27 and 28.
