I must admit something. I did it and I hope you won’t do the same. I compared. That’s right. I compared old to new – old favourites to fond refreshers. I went back and remembered everything I had loved and everything I had lost. I revisited these songs that changed my life and are forever a part of me.
On Greatest Palace Music, the Bonnie Prince steps back into his own library and retells old stories in a new voice. A voice, that although inspired, seems at times misdirected in its vision and execution. There are moments of absolute beauty on this album – moments that showcase the insanely brilliant songwriting talent of a middle-aged man with a leaky heart – but again I must admit something to you. These songs are like my warm-hearted old friends and the new versions are just that – new.
