| · The debut EP from Matthew Good Jr.
Turn Off The Stars walk a precarious line between college and commercial rock mostly because Mike Walkers cloying croon bears an almost clone-like resemblance to Matthew Good (he only really spices it up with some Chris Martin falsetto). Trading off warbled vocals with indulgent guitar solos, this Toronto four piece seems torn between hipster edge and alt-rock stardom although they do lean more towards the latter. Tracks such as "Falling into You" are shameless MOR radio rock, but like Good and Co., Turn Off The Stars will sometimes surprise you with the music. If you like Good and his brand of lush whine-rock, then you cant go too wrong with these guys. If you dont, you will want to steer clear of Everything is OK.
