· Using the power of hook for good instead of evil.

Toronto’s controller.controller are known down East for being able to get even the most notoriously bored audiences to actually dance. With their raging guitars, disco beats and slinky bass they will undoubtldly draw comparisons to ’80s-influenced "it" bands like the Rapture. A valid point, but the truth is that front woman Nirmala Basnayake can actually sing and her new-wave croon combined with the infectious nature of the lyrics (and the rest of the album for that matter) make the songs stick like an elementary school kid’s tongue on a frozen metal fencepost. As she carelessly moans "It ain’t no big deal" during "Disco Blackout" it’s tough not to sing along. Still, album standout "History" with its Meg-White-meets-David-Lovering drum beat will need only five seconds to get your head nodding in agreement.
