Featuring members of Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and The Silver Mt. Zion, Valley of The Giants proves to be an oblique, atmospheric explosion of sound. As you might imagine given the tenure of the band’s members, not a track on the album clocks in at less than five minutes, with the bulk of songs taking their time to explore the sonic canyon between intimacy and cacophony.
Guitar strings bend with both Wild-West precision and space-rock fury, violins traverse the globe and swirling undercurrents tie the whole thing together. As comfortable emulating vintage work of the Dirty Three as they are the shoegazing density of Flying Saucer Attack, Valley of the Giants brings all their influences together into a loping and beautiful, tenderly organic blowout.
