– Dub Narcotic Sound System

It’s been five years since we last heard from Calvin Johnson and his homegrown musical project Dub Narcotic Sound System (named for Johnson’s basement studio in Olympia, Washington). The founder of K Records and company joined forces with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion back in 1999 to formulate the sensational Sideways Soul. Despite this notable passage of time Degenerate Introduction offers no epic buildup, no reassertion of Johnson’s mastery of the dub genre. Just plenty of rock-steady vibes. "Old Skool grooves and rare hip-hop beats" is how Johnson aptly describes the core of his intoxicating musical repertoire, kindly reminding you "the dance floor is your friend." Extended reggae loops thickened with rhythmic bass lines dominate this phat funk-punk party.
