There’s more to the Moose than the rent
RE: A Year Of Building Splendidly, by Martin Morrow, Theatre, December 25 - December 31, 2003

According to Martin Morrow in his year end review of local theatre, I allowed the Garry Theatre "to go without exploring all of the options." I can't imagine how Mr. Morrow knows this as he was not involved in the process we went through in deciding whether to continue operating out of the Garry. He suggests that one unexplored option would be to share the facility, assuming I suppose that we simply couldn't afford the rent increase. The fact of the matter is that the owners wanted considerably more than we felt the Garry was worth, they refused to negotiate a more reasonable rate, and so we decided the only option was to leave. I wasn't aware that we were supposed to make a bad business decision just to help out the local merchants, or so that we could continue to support the Calgary International Fringe Festival. There is likely a lot more that Martin Morrow doesn't know about this bit of old news, perhaps because he's never asked, but I would rather look forward to the new year than continue to revisit the past.
