CASIOTONE FOR THE PAINFULLY ALONE
Twinkle Echo
Tomlab
· Forget the ear candy, this album tastes great.

Twinkle Echo is the third album by film-school dropout Owen Ashworth known as Casiotone For the Painfully Alone. The sound quality on this album, as on the last two, is horrible – and that's the point. The songs, recorded with basic equipment and relying heavily on a Casio keyboard, have an eerie depth that is only improved by the poor production. In forcefully demonstrating that the medium is not always the message, Twinkle Echo comes off as a refreshing, dirty alternative to slicker electro-depressive albums such as the Postal Service's Give Up. This album shows CFTPA at his songwriting best with interesting lyrics and more sophisticated arrangements than were found on his previous two albums, and even if only for kitsch value, it's worth a listen.
