Fiona Renshaw is the singer-songwriter who has gained recognition from her contribution to music by Mr. Scruff. Having worked with such a notable figure in electronic music, Renshaw now stands centre stage and has released a beautiful, albeit brief, collection of pop songs on her solo debut Love in a Bubble.
But don’t let the term pop fool you – her songs are more sophisticated and daring than your average fluff. What sets her apart from other musicians is her deep, rich voice and her ability to portray the emotions of the lyrics. Listening to Renshaw, you can imagine her in a smoke-filled lounge, singing with great sincerity and emotion.
Although the title track is a throwaway, the rest of Love in a Bubble is an enjoyable modern musing on love delivered by an ardent and evocative vocalist.
