BLINK 182

· What are you guys doing? I thought you were my friends.

I should have known it would happen. Those snot-nosed little punks left my cheese out in the wind. I blew my indie-cred and was the laughing stock of all my college radio pals because I not only admitted to liking Blink 182, but actually went out and bought their records. Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jack It may have been overproduced, carbon-copied musical potty humour, but they were catchy as hell and a lot less disposable than you might expect.

With their latest self-titled effort, Blink 182 try to experiment – bad news for those of us who were content with their tried-and-true formula. There are hints of past glory here, but nothing that matches the gooey genius of their hits. Instead, warbled guitars, hidden monologues and crappy experimental funk breakdowns take all the fun out of the record.

I guess it’s like those friends you had in high school – you both grow apart. I guess those college-rock snobs were my real friends after all.
