Emperor Norton
· Like the Back To Mine series, only not as cool.

It’s kind of sweet that the folks in Ladytron want to give their fans a mix tape of their favourite music. Younger fans of the electro-pop group may not have heard of The Fall, Wire or Shocking Blue, all of whom are included on Softcore Jukebox. It does seem a bit self-aggrandizing, though, that Ladytron has also elected to include two of its own tracks, as well as three artists who are protégés of group member Daniel Hunt. (And you wonder why there aren’t any explanations given for the song selections.)

There are some fine songs here – I particularly liked the New Fast Automatic Daffodils’s "Big" – but there’s also some monotonous electro-crud, like Fat Truckers’s "Teenage Daughter." For my money, I’d suggest either buying the original source albums or waiting for the next real Ladytron release.
