You hate those CD reviews where the writer feels the need to slag some other musician in order to rave about the subject at hand, right? Like, if the writer goes on about how annoying and whiny many wet-behind-the-ears emo-core bands are because they scream their lungs out about insignificant things like getting stood up for date as if it was a horrific tragedy where a loved one was maimed or killed, but comes across more like a five-year-old blubbering because mommy took away his soda pop. Well, I don't want this to be one of those reviews. Suffice to say P.W. Long is back to top form (see We Didn't See You on Sunday) on his new collection of country-and-soul-tinged, tough-skinned rockers. He is sounding as tortured and melancholy as ever, and I believe him.
