REVERIE SOUND REVUE
Untitled
Independent
· A reverie for all things modern and sophisticated.

Reverie Sound Revue have been winning over many local audiences in their short but exciting history. With the release of this six song EP, the band proves that their live reputation translates just as well to CD.

Recorded at Sundae Sound with Dave Alcock in the co-producer’s chair, this recording fleshes out the band’s repertoire of modern, immediate and well-written compositions. The sophisticated pop songs move along at a breezy yet confidently hi-fi pace without sounding cluttered. Mark Depapp and Patrick Wall’s guitars and keyboards colour the songs with clean, inventive bursts of sound, while the rythmn section of John-Marcel deWaal and Bryce Gracey keep things tight and well paced.

Vocalist Lisa Lobsinger is the element that ties everything together. Her singing is the band’s strongest asset and her vocals are wonderfully arranged throughout the entire set. Holding her own with Reverie’s very contemporary sound, Lisa has a laid-back vocal style that draws on jazz and blues traditions. This gives the songs an organic quality that avoids a sterile retro-pop sound, setting the band apart from most other modernists mining this territory.

The only drawback is the brevity of the album. One can’t complain too much, though, as Reverie Sound Revue have released a recording that can only further illuminate a bright light in Calgary’s music scene.
