THE APPLESEED CAST
Two Conversations
Tiger Style Records
· A little bit emo, a little bit brilliant rock ’n’ roll.

Because L.A. quintet The Appleseed Cast have relocated to Kansas, it has been very easy to lump them in with emo-pop posterboys The Get Up Kids. While both bands have shared producer Ed Rose, and the Cast aren’t above the half-time breaks and longing vocals associated with emo, they bear more resemblance to modern pop wizards The Flaming Lips.

Low Level Owl Volumes 1 and 2 were The Cast’s magnum opus, brimming with layered instrumentation, cascading guitars and a boldness that only comes from too much time in the studio. With its bright lush sound, the Low Level Owl series was not far off from The Lips’ calling card album, The Soft Bulletin. With their latest album, Two Conversations, The Appleseed Cast have given birth to their Yoshimi. The musical and lyrical themes have all been explored before, and though it doesn’t pack the impact of its predecessor, Two Conversations delivers some of the finest melodies of the year. From the jaw-dropping guitar punch of "Hello Dearest Love" to the unabashed rocker "Innocent Vigilant Ordinary," The Appleseed Cast re-affirm that you can make optimistic music that also has susbstance.
