You know how when you go to a 3-D movie, you’re all excited because there’s a gimmick? You get the glasses, you watch the film, but when you strip away all the surrounding hullabaloo, the end result isn’t really that spectacular. This record is exactly like that.
While reverbed instro-rock is not the forum for stunning originality, Los Straitjackets don’t even try. You’ve heard all of the songs before even though they aren’t covers, and the pristine hi-fi delivery doesn’t make them any better. If the album was a little rougher around the edges, it would recall those heady days of 3-D double features and vintage surf rock and be that much better as a result.
