KITCHENS & BATHROOMS
Vehicles Beyond
Sonic Unyon
· Performing live August 20 at the Castle Pub.

While placing Kitchens & Bathrooms in the gap between Slint and June of 44 may seem like an exercise in hair splitting, that's where their new record best fits. With the former's eerie hook and the latter's jagged propulsion Kitchens & Bathrooms have shaken off the last minute traces of punk from their debut for something altogether more epic. Phil Williams and Lee Penrose offer divergent vocal styles – one delivers a deadpan monologue and the other a lupine howl – but the focus is clearly on the music. Re-teaming with producer Daniel L. Burton with a firmly cemented line-up in tow, Vehicles Beyond is a more cohesive effort than their past efforts and somehow more discordantly melodic.
