"No, there is no marijuana reference behind our name," says Lucky 7s bassist and vocalist Steven Press. "We love Sin City one of our guys lives in Las Vegas, so we have tons of practices there, and then we hit the strip. Thats where our name comes from."
San Diegos Lucky 7 are living proof that musicians can have their music available for download on the Internet and still actually earn a living. Voted Best Alternative Band in 1999 by MP3.com, the So-Cal punk rockers do indeed feel that they are blessed to be the recipients of all this good fortune.
Their catchy pop hooks with a clean-cut wild side have made a big splash with listeners on the Web, who have flocked in droves to the popular MP3.com site to download Lucky 7s songs. The two runaway tracks "California Girl" (which now has a video in rotation on MuchMusic) and "Come Monday" were soon ranked Number 1 and 3 respectively on the MP3 charts and were reportedly copied by paying customers more than 10,000 times in a one-month period.
Deriving the inspiration for their melodic blend of pop-punk from bands like Green Day and Jimmy Eat World, Lucky 7 is sure to win over the fans who come to see them perform live, just as they have successfully enchanted their online fans..
"Those songs on MP3.com got us started it opened a lot of doors for us," says Press. "They funded our first couple of tours, and it was a big deal to us. We got a lot of recognition through the Internet, and it really became a word-of-mouth kind of thing its contagious." |
