Earth Day events
Worldwide Earth Day takes place April 22, but related events in Calgary are taking place throughout April. Among them are:

· Green-box giveaway: The city of Calgary is giving away 10,000 green recycling boxes randomly at recycling depots around the city.

· Earth Day kickoff party: The Alberta Green Party is hosting a kickoff party on April 17 featuring Danielle French, Hex, Anne Loree and DJ Marco Primo at the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association. Tickets are available at Megatunes and Community Natural Foods. Proceeds go to the Activist Network (www.activist.ca).

· Climb for Wilderness: The annual Alberta Wilderness Association fundraiser takes place April 19, and will see participants raising money for the environmental organization by climbing the Calgary Tower stairs (albertawilderness.ca).

· Earth Run and Expo: Sponsored by Community Natural Foods, this fund-raising race and educational exposition focuses on local environmental initiatives and technologies and raises money for Urban Eden Institute. The event takes place April 20 (www.earthrun.ca).

· Panel discussion: Presented by the Young Environmental Professionals and Earth Day Calgary, this April 22 event will examine innovative ways to live in an environmentally sensitive manner.

· Reuse extravaganza: The annual Clean Calgary event collects household products that can be reused by local organizations. The event takes place April 26 at the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Hall, and will collect items on behalf of organizations, businesses, and schools that can reuse them. The items being sought include: egg cartons, yogurt containers, plant pots, plastic grocery bags, craft supplies, fax and printer cartridges, computers and accessories, CDs and jewel cases, usable building supplies and household items (www.cleancalgary.com).
