| · Fifth album from Buena Vista Social Club vocalist.
Cubas Ibrahim Ferrer (yes, hes still alive) is definitely in the heavyweight arena with the guys whove been making soul music forever.
Buenos Hermanos is Ferrers fifth album not bad, considering his first came in 1999 and that the mans in his 70s. The easy, molasses-smooth arrangements and vocals are the hallmarks of a man whos been singing for longer and better than most. Buenos Hermanos is another collaboration with Ry Cooder, and is fully laden with the sly sexiness, heat and romance that Cuban music always pulls off so well.
Never sounding a false note, Ferrers voice still has an angelic choirboy purity, and the album rests in an inescapable groove from beginning to end, seamlessly guided by the more than a dozen virtuoso musicians accompanying the golden-throated Ferrer. He waited long enough for his success, and hes certainly not squandering it now. Buenos Hermanos is a gem of finely crafted, diverse and often courageous Cuban jazz, taking risks that pay off gorgeously every time.
