THE MUSIC
The Music
EMI
· All hail the return of rock and roll.

You’d better be a damn good band if you’re going to be cheeky enough to call yourself The Music. Noel Gallagher was the last purveyor of such arrogance, and continued long after he deserved to do so. Britain’s hottest new narcissistic export is a younger, hipper version of veteran hard rockers Led Zeppelin.

Heavily steeped in ’70s psychedelic rock, The Music’s backbone is pure guitar, a furious gale of squeals and drones. Pummeling drums keep the beat heavy and a deep bass line vibrates subtly below the surface. Lead vocalist Robert Harvey’s guttural howls show no restraint and come from the very depths of every teenage rocker’s soul.

It’s about time the musically fertile U.K. sent over a more rocking representative of their scene – Coldplay’s sniveling melancholy was really starting to get me down.
