Some of the biggest names in Calgary's theatre community will be getting some big play at Alberta Theatre Projects next year.

The company announced its 2003-2004 lineup on March 17, and it is heavy on local talent – Calgary playwrights Stephen Massicotte, Eugene Strickland and Ken Cameron, as well as puppet guru Ronnie Burkett, all have major productions.

The season kicks off with a satiric tale of Quebec separatism called Plan B, by Michael Healey, the Governor General Award-winning playwright of The Drawer Boy. The modern classic Who's Afraid of Virginia W0olf? follows, and then the Calgary connection begins.

It starts with a Christmas production of Massicotte's comedy about growing up, The Boy’s Own Jedi Handbook, which was a huge hit when it was first presented by Ground Zero Theatre.

As usual, Alberta Theatre Projects will be busy throughout February with its playRites Festival of new Canadian plays, which in 2004 features new works from Strickland and Cameron, as well as plays from B.C.'s Frank Moher and Montreal's Steve Laplante.

Burkett's marionettes take the main stage next in Provenance, which is described as " bawdy, wry, witty and sentimental."

The season ends on a powerful note with The Shape of Things by American Neil LaBute, who is best known for penning the dark comedy film In the Company of Men.

The season kicks off on September 9. More information is available at Alberta Theatre Project's Web site (www.atplive.com).
