In my mind, there really are only two kinds of blues: amped-up, full-on Motor City mayhem or stripped-down, wailin’, dying-in-a-ditch, my-woman-just-left-me Delta blues. Country blues doesn’t commit to either, and while Harry Manx and Kevin Breit are unparalleled guitarists, their collaborative album Jubilee makes you wish the smooth vocals would open up and growl a bit. Similarly, the acoustic guitar is so pristine that any edge this recording could have had is lost. Talented? Yes. Diverse? Yes. Boring? Sadly, yes.
