| When I tell people I dont subscribe to cable or bother with peasant TV, they often ask how I know whats going on. I usually flip the question back to them and ask how, with all the information that television bombards them with, they can possibly know whats really going on.
Do you watch the news? Or was it a weather report? Maybe a bit of local humour with some cat jumping 50 feet from a tree? Im far more interested in the news Im not getting than whats being cranked out at the major news networks.
Enter the Guerrilla News Network, found at gnn.tv, which states: "Our mission is to expose people to important global issues through guerrilla programming on the Web and on television." This mission is accomplished by short video clips infusing information with a beat soundtrack, quick cuts and people with ideas too controversial for prime-time news.
The News Video section highlights Eminems "White America" video, which was directed by GNN co-founder Stephen Marshall. The video was deemed "anti-patriotic," which stopped it from getting air time on MTV, but didnt stop Eminem from using the video to open his show on his U.S. tour.
Aftermath: Unanswered Questions from 9/11 is another gem, featuring nine people answering 11 questions surrounding the events of that day. In addition, you can join the Guerrilla News Forum if you want to discuss any of the clips or stories, or just read the banter of conspiracy theorists versus curious Joe Public.
You still may not find out whats really going on behind closed doors, but you will have another perspective on it. |
