DJ DSL
#1
G Stone

· A precise amalgamation of oddities and smoked-out goodies.

New to the G Stone roster, DJ DSL originally broke ground with Peter Kruder in Vienna as part of an infamous event called "Dr Moreau’s Creatures." On #1, his inaugural full-length album, he takes his groundbreaking down-tempo to the next level.

DSL is adept at combining and mutating hip-hop into a different left-field form, à la Kid Koala. But where Koala spends an album showcasing his amazing technical abilities, DSL approaches tracks by building and redefining structure out of his beat-juggling prowess. The distinction is subtle but important – it makes DSL’s album a more cohesive and ultimately more enjoyable listening experience.

While artists like Koala certainly brought turntablism to a wider audience, DSL, like other G Stone artists, has refined the craft to deliver a well-rounded album of amalgamated sounds. Highlights from this include the amazing "Happy Bear" and his reworking of Masters of Illusion’s "Let me talk to you." In both cases, his knack for hooks blends brilliantly with his ability to modify and rework their structure, and develop them through the course of a track.
