NIGHTLIFE
by Tom Babin
Been to a rave lately? If you live in Calgary, chances are slim that the answer is yes. That's because long-awaited changes to the city's extended dance bylaw are still nowhere to be seen.

The bylaw is nearly three years old, and for nearly that long city administrators have been promising to make change to address some of the problems members of the rave community say have all but killed the local rave scene.

A meeting to discuss changes to the bylaw was scheduled for last summer. That meeting was postponed at the last minute until September. That meeting was also postponed and still has not been held. Several calls to City Hall to inquire about the status of the bylaw were not returned.

Craig Boone, a local sound and lighting technician, says the delays have destroyed the will of many in the rave community.

"It's going to be three years since the bylaw (was enacted) soon, and they keep putting it off and putting it off and putting it off," Boone says. "I'm all ready to give up. I can't afford to spend any more time on this."
