Hey Bo Diddley: A Tribute!
Evidence
· Tribute to legendary guitarist Bo Diddley includes recordings by Taj Mahal, Corey Harris and others.
Although Bo Diddley's formative years were spent in Chicago, the Mississippi-born musician does not appear to have been very successful in escaping his roots assuming, of course, that he even tried to. Like all true innovators, he thumbed his nose at criticism and convention and did what he wanted to.
Diddleys music may have been called too "primitive" or too "country," but he created a unique beat and sound that would come to define his music and influence countless other musicians, including most of the great English blues-rock groups like the Rolling Stones and the Yardbirds. The trouble with being so intimately associated with a particular rhythm is that all the songs on Hey Bo Diddley sound pretty much the same after awhile, despite the obviously nuanced approaches to Diddley's music taken by Charlie Musselwhite, Otis Rush and others.
