FULL WHITE DRAG
The Independence
Inner-Flight Records
· Anthems for starlit kids.
On The Independence, Full White Drags singer Dave Mueller evokes an austere mood with his raw-throated vocals, which bear a strong resemblance to those of rock icon Steve Albini, whose maniac howls helped define the bands Big Black, Rape Man and Shellac. Carefully calculated rhythms are the perpetual metronome to new member R. Matthew Fieldss methodical washboard guitar strums and Mike Pericas cardio-pulmonary percussion. Breaking into the fray with the punctuality of The Jesus Lizards David Yow, Mueller injects his panged poetry with confidence and style. The chilly head-nodder of a tune "This is not Detroit" further solidifies this pleasingly cohesive album by dipping into the experimental without overtly overextending itself. As long as they avoid that high-pitched oscillating stuff, these lads have a bright future.
