LETTER
by FFWD Reader
The state of theatre critiques in this city has finally reached rock bottom with Jeff Goffin's incredibly uninspired "review" of Mob Hit's Picasso at the Lapin Agile ("The café of genius" by Jeff Goffin, Theatre, Dec 12-18, 2002). Not only can I not tell if the reviewer liked or disliked the show, I can't even tell if he saw it!

The column reads like a fourth grade book report written about the script. Don't worry, Mr. Goffin, we will get the plot when (or if) we go see the show. Until then the least you can do is offer us your opinion on what you saw, so we can decide if we might want to go see it, too.

Now that Fast Forward is the only game in town (Louis B's reviews have always been a joke), can the editors not hire inspired writers, or even decent ones? Martin Morrow was the closest thing this city had to a bona fide critic, and now we don't have a home to read his well-referenced works. Please editors, fix this now. We, the readers, don't want any more plot synopses. We want the critiques back.

D.J. Kelly,
Calgary
