FLASH BASTARD
Bastard Radio
Longshot

· "No, rock and roll ain’t gonna save your life, but when the beat’s inside, you can cut it out and come alive tonight."

Sometimes there is nothing more refreshing than a straight-up, unapologetic rawk album. Vancouver’s Flash Bastard combine hot licks with tight leather posturing for a balls-out collection of hooks and harmonies. Nothing new here – Bastard Radio is content recalling ’70s punk and ’80s power pop – but Donal Finn’s cries of "Yeah," "Baby" and "Oooh" don’t rely on originality, they rely on recognition. You could complain about the predictable solos, mid-song kick-and-snare drum breakdowns and snotty backing vocals, but you would be missing the point. Maybe you’d rather listen to your Joan Jett records, but so would Flash Bastard.
