Calgary's News & Entertainment Weekly
FFWD Weekly

Writing this column has allowed me the privilege of viewing hundreds of forwarded messages from well-meaning friends. The messages usually have "Check this weird shit out" in the subject bar, and I am usually exposed to some mildly disturbing image or Flash movie or story.

I guess the feeling is that I’ll appreciate it, which I do, because the "weird shit" is a pleasant break from the "really weird shit" I come up with.

When I’m looking for dinner conversation, I usually head on over to www.focusonweirdness.com (don’t skip the www or you’ll end up at a site that looks the same, but it’s all about wireless technology). The site provides weird stories from around the globe, with a telling tally system that lets you know which stories are the most sought after. It seems that the story about the squirrel shot out of vengeance is far more popular than the one about the man who killed his mother and then lived with her for weeks. However, the red-socked Calgary Flames streaker story is gaining ground.

Occasionally, my partner finds a few sites beyond belief (when he’s not searching for Bif Naked photos or foot fetish sites). I have him to thank for the-light.com/mens/longhair.html, a site devoted to men with flowing locks and the inspiring ways in which they style them. Be sure to view the "Samson of the Month" and participate in the chat forum – support a man’s right to grow his hair long, and fight the conventional types who promote a shorthaired male society.

Once you’ve warmed up to the weirdness vibe, prepare yourself for the most unsettling site I’ve found in a while: dolphinsex.org. It’s actually weirder than you think – you’ll never look at Flipper the same way again.
