THE FLIPSIDES
Clever One

· Punk rock trio sings of sweet revenge on cruel teenage boys.
Flipsides frontwoman Sabrina Stewart approaches her songwriting with all the fervour and anguish generally reserved for adolescent girls scribbling madly in their private diaries. With an acid tongue and unabashed vulnerability, her lyrics lash out at the jerk who dared to stop returning her calls. "Hold the thought and throw it away/ Youve had your chances/ So get out of my way/ Ill kick you down to the ground/ If you dont trip/ And I wont pick you up when youre falling," she sings vehemently on "60s."
Set to punked-up power chords and vigorous drumming, Stewart's defiant feminine voice drips with teenage attitude she seems made to belt out bitter lovelorn rants. The debut album by the San Francisco trio follows in the footsteps of their idols Green Day, delivering each track with the perfect combination of snot-nosed posturing and awkward girly angst. You can practically hear the bubble gum smacking between songs.
