QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
Songs For The Deaf
Interscope/ Universal

· Put your hands on the radio – Queens of the Stone Age pound out the good vibrations.

Singer-vocalist Josh Homme and bass player Nick Oliveri are two stones in the steady stream of collaborating musicians that constitute Queens of the Stone Age. Ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, who has also done stints with Tenacious D, reputedly put off the completion of his latest Foo Fighters album for the opportunity to collaborate on this dream project.

Grohl, grinning maniacally, can be seen taking his place behind the skins on the DVD that accompanies Songs For The Deaf's heavier-than-all-get-out 14-track CD. Homme’s harsh screams dissolve into breathy gothic crooning, whilst goateed bassist Oliveri conjures gritty power chords from the underworld. Unflinchingly dark, this somewhat nostalgic album is defined by its masturbatory repetitiveness, beating that dead horse with Melvins-like bullheadedness.
