| Mall not the place for art gallery
Mike Paget makes the point that the local art scene needs a non-commercial gallery located in Chinook Centre (Chinook Centre is city's public space, Letters, Aug. 29), but I really have to question how effective that would be.
From my perspective, the bulk of people at Chinook Centre are absorbed in either fast food or buying the latest trendy clothing fad, rather than interested in the local arts scene. It's my experience that those that enjoy the local arts and cultural scene tend to live, shop and work in the city core, and are less likely to frequent shopping malls than the Eminem, fast-food-eating suburbanite who ventures downtown as little as possible.
If art galleries in the city core have poor attendance, I'd guess it's either overall lack of interest or people have no idea where they are.
