| Falling into the busy season ahead
I know it's probably hard to believe with the weather we're having, but fall is on its way and with it comes the busy book season.
First off, the 28th annual Bob Edwards Luncheon will take place Thursday, October 10 at the Hyatt Regency from noon to 1:30 p.m. This year's honoured guest speaker and recipient of the 2002 Bob Edwards Award is writer, broadcaster and teacher Rex Murphy. Don't forget to mark your calendar for WordFest: Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival, taking place October 16 to 20. Oh, you're wondering why PanCanadian is missing from the name? Well, PanCanadian is now part of EnCana, which is still the major sponsor, but no longer part of the name the event will be "presented by EnCana" instead So, now you know. But one thing that won't be missing is the abundance of authors the festival brings to Calgary and Banff, and the abundance of fun (and beer and wine) they have at the events. The 2002 lineup will be announced on September 4, so check back here on Thursday, September 5 for details.
There hasn't been much word on the street about Word on the Street, the national literacy fair usually held in late September. The festival lost its major sponsor last year when Chapters, which was purchased by Heather Reisman of Indigo, pulled out, but organizers still rounded up enough support to go ahead. This year there is nothing about 2002 on the Web site (www.canada.com/national/features/wots/) we'll keep our ears open and let you know.
Meanwhile, summer may slow down in the literary world, but there's always something going on. filling Station magazine invite syou to Eat Launch After Work on Friday, August 2.
